School Zone Signs
School signs warn that children may be near the road. The school sign is the only five-sided (pentagon) sign, usually fluorescent yellow-green.
A school speed limit often applies only when its lights are flashing or during posted hours. Near a school, slow down and be ready to stop.
School buses have their own rules. Every state requires you to stop when you are behind a school bus that has its red lights flashing and its stop arm out. Whether traffic coming the other way must also stop depends on the state and on whether the road is divided, so check your state handbook for the exact rule.
